The Darkest Minds: Alexandra Bracken
Again, I have been thrown onto the bandwagon of books that flew so far under my radar that I totally missed them until they got the "Hollywood Treatment". When an unidentified illness takes the lives of the majority of the U.S's children and gives supernatural powers to the ones that survive, Ruby Daly survives by pretending to be a Green, a child with superhuman knowledge, instead of the Orange she really is, a child with the ability to read and influence other people's minds. after escaping her camp, she goes on a whirlwind road trip with Liam; a Blue that takes on the leadership role, Chubs; a Green with bad eyesight and is suspicious of Ruby and Zu; a young Yellow that is afraid of her powers.Although I flew the the first book in this series, I don't think I'll be picking up the other three anytime soon. Being the completest I am, yes, I will eventually get them and finish but there are more books and life events that are priorities. While YA Dystopian is one of my preferred genres, this one just didn't sit well with me. I can't put my finger on what I didn't like but it just didn't sit well with me when I finished but that could also be that I was sick. Like I said, I will eventually finish the series and reread The Darkest Minds again, but it won't be anytime soon.
Pros:
Very easy read
Makes you think deeply about current stance with gov't (reffugees)
Cons:
Not enough detail on how epidemic starts
No backstory on other characters (except Ruby)
