Cinder, The Lunar Chronicles: Marissa Meyer
Sometimes you have to think WAY outside the box when you want to retell a classic story. Marissa Meyer did this and did it phenomenally. The main character, Cinder, is a cyborg in New Beijing working for her "step-mother" fixing parts. She meets the prince, Kai, as he is being molded to replace his dying father as king. While the two strike up a friendship it is discover that Cinder is a Lunar, a person from the moon, living on Earth. Through many trials and losses, Cinder sets off and becomes a fugitive on the run while still learning about herself, her past, and her future
While I did really enjoy Cinder, Marissa Meyer did lean pretty heavily on the Cinderella story to get through this, and continues to do this with the subsequent books in the series. That's not necessarily and bad thing, "Space Cinderella" is a hard concept to wrap your head around and trust me, it's sort of hard, but once you get going and immerse yourself into the world and universe of this series you won't want to put it down.
Pro:
Incorporates elements from the original story without being overly obvious
World building
Cons:
Too many insignificant detail about tech
"Space Cinderella"
