Dumplin' : Julie Murphy
I really enjoyed this book! YA is probably what I end up reading the most, and this one really took the cake. A story of self-confidence and self-love really is what young women need now. Everyone is perfect in their own skin and this story really reinforces this. Willowdean is this very real representation of young girls who are labeled "outcasts" by their fellow classmates and decides to join the local beauty pageant to show the community that you don't have to be a skinny to be a queen.Pros:
Self-Empowerment
Realistic love story
Great story telling
Cons:
Lags a bit in the middle
The fight between Willowdean and Ellen was a bit forced but did move the story
